The Illiterate Prophet

Isaiah 29:12
"And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned."

Problem:
Moslems claim that Muhammad was illiterate and could not read or write (although some ahadith suggest that he could read and write a bit). They ask who the prophet was who could not read, and say that as all the Biblical prophets could all read and write this must have been Muhammad.

Solution:
  1. This is a prophecy about a false prophet. Consider the context, "For the LORD hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered." (v. 10). The prophet was unable to read the words of the prophecy because God had made him illiterate. He had done this because the prophet was teaching man's ideas and not the word of God (v. 13).

  2. The prophet in this prophecy is a false prophet. If it is a prophecy about Muhammad then it shows him to be a false prophet.
