Chapter 20
A Summary of Daniel and Revelation
Now that we have looked at the prophetic picture in Daniel and Revelation we can put all the pieces together in one illustration.
First of all we saw the description of Nebuchadnezzar's image in Daniel 2 showing the four human world empires that would arise in the course of history. Daniel 7 predicted the four empires once again, giving us more detail, especially of the Roman Empire (dragon).
When we turned to Revelation 12, we found a description of the conversion of the Roman Empire to Christianity. Revelation 13:1-10 went on to describe a period of years during which the Roman Empire (beast of the sea) would be ruled by 10 barbaric nations. After this, Revelation 13:11-18 predicted the development of the Holy Roman Empire (beast of the earth). Finally, Revelation 17 described the last state of the Roman dominion as being ruled by a harlot church who has many daughters. Thus God revealed this prophetic picture of the political and religious condition of the world from the time of Daniel up to the second coming of Jesus Christ and the setting up of his kingdom.
