- Matthew 5:18
- "For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth
pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all
be fulfilled."
- Problem:
- This verse is cited in support of the belief that the earth will be
destroyed fire, and left desolate.
- Solution:
- "Till heaven and earth pass" is a proverbial expression that
signifies "till the end of the age", or is another way of
saying "never" in the popular sense.
We know that the earth will not pass away, for Psalm 104:5 states,
"He [God] set the earth on its foundations; it can never be
moved."
Also, Psalm 93:1 says, "The world is firmly established; it cannot
be moved." (repeated in Psa 93:10)
And Ecclesiastes 1:4 "One generation passeth away, and another
generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever."
- If one insists on interpretating "till heaven and earth
pass" literally, then one will have to explain how every star in
the universe, including all the planets, and even God's dwelling place
(heaven) will one day "pass away"!
